Villas For Sale and To Rent on The Lovely Island of Menorca

Menorca Villa For Sale

Glorious Menorca Villa For Sale

Before deciding to buy our villa in Menorca, we had looked at a wide variety of Spanish property for sale. In the end, we just loved the island and once we’d visited Binibeca and the surrounding area, which seemed ideal for two small children (ages 9 and 7) we knew this was where we wanted to buy.

Menorca has always enjoyed a special place in the hearts of tourists who prefer their Balearic Islands holidays to be spent in a beautiful setting near the beach. Another plus for Menorca are its warm and very hospitable local people. Aside from being friendly, locals are also deeply religious, they are quite proud of their traditional fiestas which are held to honor their patron saints. This quaint religious custom attracts a lot of visitors to Menorca and often are seen to last for 3 days.

The Best Way To Buy a Villa In Menorca

We really do believe that Menorca is the “Jewel In The Crown” of the Spanish Balearic Islands. At the time of our search, summer 1998, there was a lot of property for sale in Menorca and we booked an entire week long holiday with the objective of finding our perfect holiday villa and we  based ourselves at Son Parc, on the North Coast of Menorca close to Punta Grossa. Son Parc is a self contained resort with bars a very nice restaurant and a couple of cafes, as well, of course as the island’s only golf course. When we were there there was some football tournament on and the large screen TV’s did seem to be everywhere. I would say though that Son Parc resort was beautifully set up for families with younger children and as we were childless for the week, it didn’t really suit us. However, after our trekking round the island in search of our Menorca Villa For Sale, all we were fit for by evening was a quick snack and bed, before repeating the entire process the next day.

Menorca Villa For Sale – Get A Great Property Agent

Villa For Sale Cala Torret

The largest real estate agent on the island is Bonnin Sanso and we were fortunate enough to have the exclusive services of Simon Terry (now with Fincas Es Moli at the time of writing this) to help us with our villa search. What we loved about Simon was that he listened to what we asked for, took us to see what we had asked to see and then helped us modify our wish list until by the fourth or fifth day, we all knew exactly what we wanted and where. By that time we knew we wanted a four bedroom villa, preferably with one double bedroom at least and two bathrooms, one of which could be en suite. Most important of all, we wanted our own private swimming pool, preferably with covered and open terrace areas. A sea view, rather than a landscape view was also high on our priority list. It was important to be reasonably close to Mahon airport as we could envisage taking the early flight out of Gatwick to get to Mahon reasonably early morning and the last thing we wanted was a long drive on arrival. During the course of the week he even persuaded the owner of one of the Island’s top letting and service agents (Realcare) to come and view a property at Cap d’en Font with us, to explain about maintenance and give us a view on the potential holiday letting income we might expect to secure on that particular property. (As it happens, Cap d’en Font and this particular villa were right under the Mahon airport filghtpath and from the roof terrace of what was actually a very nice villa, you felt like you could almost touch the wheels of the jets as they flew over.) My wife was very keen on that particular property, but we hadn’t found “The One” yet.

However, we were getting closer and after falling in love with a beautiful traditional older villa at Es Canutells but which had no pool, we finally settled – on our penultimate day – for Villa Salamander in Cala Torret. Simon arranged meetings with a solicitor, helped us get a bank account and even accompanied us to get our resident’s permits. (There was a solar eclipse that day – for you astronomers out there to actually work out the actual day in 1999.)

Menorca Villa For Sale – We Reluctantly Decided To Sell

So, after  9 years we decided to sell our beautiful traditional Spanish villa in the sun and we thought we’d put together a page or two, to supplement the efforts of our Menorca Estate Agents on the island. In time we hope to provide free listings for other villa owners looking to sell their Menorcan properties. (Spanish Estate Agents charge around 5% commission on a sale, so it’s well worth the effort of trying to sell your own Spanish property.)

Menorca Villa For Sale

At the time of updating this page, the villa is sold and now the site has become something of a hobby for us, a link with Menorca and our villa that we are a little unwilling to sever altogether. We’re hoping to buy again one day, possibly even in Menorca, but meanwhile have decided to put down our experiences and provide help to others who may want to visit Menorca, or even those  looking to buy and also those who have their own Menorca Villa For Sale.
