Fornells Harbour
is a complete contrast to Mahon Harbour. Fornells Harbour is situated at the north end of Menorca and is a beautiful natural harbour and one of the most picturesque fishing ports you are ever likely to see. It is quite a hike to reach if you are staying at the south end of the island, but Fornells Harbour is a real treat that is worth the journey. Plan a full day, taking in a good mooch round the shops as well as lunch and if your budget can run to it – plan to eat early evening overlooking Fornells Harbour. You will thank me for the suggestion!
We’ve visited Fornells Harbour quite a few times over the years. I fondly remember one occasion taking my 80+ mother to eat in a convenient roadside restaurant overlooking the bay and being accompanied by our friends’ nephew who decided to order the lobster soup as a starter. (They had told him to order whatever he wanted.) However £37 for a starter was a bit rich for my taste back in 2002! No wonder his aunt volunteered to halve the bill, my mother ate like a sparrow in those days and hardly managed more than a green salad and tuna starter.
Fornells Harbour Restaurants.
As the story goes, the restaurant that actually sits in Fornells Harbour amongst the boats is a favourite of King Juan Carlos of Spain, who sails his yacht into the harbour to dine there to enjoy the atmosphere and the surroundings. Sadly we haven’t tried that – however we have wealthy friends who have and who claim it to be worth every penny – both for the food and for the view!
We’ll be adding more reviews to these pages, but for now, we hope we’ve given you a taste of Fornells Harbour.
