Mahon Harbour
is a fabulous place to visit. It’s a bustling vibrant place with loads of good quality restaurants offering quality food at quite reasonable prices. There are plenty of fashionable clothes shops along the harbour to maintain the interest of even the most fashion conscious of ladies.
I first visited Mahon Harbour in 1989, but even way back then it was bustling, although in those days it did not have quite the air of luxury that it has now – and there was no casino!
Nevertheless, even in 1989, Mahon Harbour was a “must visit” in all the tour guides. (I think we based our vist back then on “The Rough Guide to Menorca” and it covered all the typical tourist spots, as well as some of the more out of the way sights that were worth seeing.
During the Fiesta in September, the whole of Mahon Harbour becomes a pedestrian only zone , with live bands, fireworks and music of all kinds as well as dancing in the street along the harbour. In fact, when we first stayed with our villa owning friends, they insisted that we came in fiesta week so that we would have the most spectacular time – and we did. What a superb atmosphere and still suitable for families with kids of all ages.
Fast forward to 1999 when we bought our own villa in Binibeca. It was at the grill overlooking the harbour that we celebrated the purchase and the prospect of many happy visits ahead of us. Now, looking back, I can honestly say that some of our happiest memories revolve around times spent enjoying Mahon Harbour.
