Eating Out in Menorca

Menorca Restaurants | Eating Out In Menorca

We are quite lazy when we visit Menorca and tend to go back to places we know are good, only occasionally trying new places that have been particularly recommended to us. I never drink much but prefer not to drive in the evenings (I said I was lazy) so we have tended to stay around Cala Torret, unless we’re going out for a special occasion or to meet friends. Cala Torret – DP’s is my personal favourite. The service is friendly and the food is always to a good standard. They will cook a fillet steak just how you like it and their special DP kebab is always worth trying. They have a great selection for kids. My wife loves El Faro and again the service is friendly and the food on balance is probably better than DP’s. Although I am not a great fish eater, I am told by people who are that their fish is excellent. Pedro’s is another good quality restaurant again offering a wide choice to suit all tastes. Their fish is (apparently) spectacular!

If you like tapas, “Na Rosa”is a super restaurant in the square offering a huge selection of traditional tapas. They will even tell you how to blend the various items for the best taste effect. This is another of my wife’s favourites and although not to my taste – I can see the quality is superb! Just under our villa, nestling in the hillside is Bar Sa Cova. Under new management but offering good entertainment and live music. My daughter loved the ambience when she visited with friends. Mahon – There is so much competition in the port of Mahon these days that any restaurant that is below very good doesn’t seem to last very long. We’ve tried quite a lot but three stand out. Il Porto 233 otherwise known as the grill is an excellent all round restaurant and Pizzeria, offering a wide selection and superb quality – and you can look out at the rich folks on their boats while you eat. The Nashville a little further along the harbour towards the power station end offers great tex mex food and live music. Great place to meet for a drink and a good meal. Try sharing the Enchiladas – you can thank me another time!

The Farmhouse or San Josef is a short drive out of Mahon with the water on your right, cross the roundabout heading in the direction of Fornells and on the left after about a mile is the farmhouse. Set back from the road and owned by a British family. Exceptional food and well worth the drive from Cala Torret. Be sure to book. As I said you will be unlucky to find a bad restaurant along the harbour. In the town of Mahon itself, try the American Bar, right in the central square. It’s great for a coffee and just sit and watch the people go by. Sant Luis – La Venta is the restaurant that stands out here. Their fresh vegetables make them something of a rarity on the island and again, alhough it’s a while since we’ve been there, the quality was first class when we ate there !
